Family demanding answers as 15-year-old suspect who was shot by police is being denied to see his family while hospitalized
A 15-year-old who was shot and injured by a Kenner police officer during a police chase is being denied to see his family.
The incident started around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday when authorities tried to stop a car in the Susan Park area. However, investigators state that the car refused to stop and a passenger got out of the vehicle on South Cumberland in Metairie and ran away.
During the foot chase, authorities say an officer opened fire at the 15-year-old suspect after he reportedly pulled out a handgun.
The 15-year-old suspect was taken into custody and was taken to a local hospital. However, his family has been denied seeing him despite the fact he is a juvenile.
A Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office official says if the hospital needs to make any medical decisions, parents and guardians are contacted by phone.
However, no one is allowed inside the hospital room as the 15-year-old is in custody and will be charged with numerous crimes.
