Times staff report

A 44-year-old Isanti man died after one of his horses ran over him Sunday at the Municipal Athletic Complex, according to the St. Cloud Police Department.

Police and emergency medical services responded to the MAC at 2:25 p.m. Sunday on a report of a man injured by a horse.

Police said the man was at the MAC for a special event in the parking lot and he had brought his Clydesdale horses and a carriage with him to offer rides during the event. He was walking the horses on a lead when he lost control and was run over by one of the horses, according to police.

The horses ran toward the golf course with the carriage still attached and the man's child inside the carriage. The horses stopped when the carriage became stuck on a tree and the child was not injured, according to police. There were no additional passengers in the carriage.

A family member was able to get the horses into a trailer with no additional injuries.

The man was taken to St. Cloud Hospital by Mayo Ambulance where he died of his injuries.
