GREEN BAY - Police have released the names of the estranged couple who died in a murder-suicide in April.

Police were called to the home April 25 and found Melissa Lemerond Gray and husband Walter Gray were dead in a home the couple had once shared in the 800 block of Third Street on the city's west side. Melissa Gray had continued to live in the home, with the couple's sons, after the Grays separated.

Police said Walter Gray shot and killed his wife. Both died of gunshot wounds.

Police Chief Chris Davis said the afternoon of the shooting that it appeared to be a case of domestic violence.

"No one should have to live in fear for their safety," Davis said at the time, reminding residents that there are resources in the community for victims of domestic violence. He encouraged domestic violence survivors to take advantage of those resources.

Police said the couple's children, 6 and 2 at the time, were not injured in the shooting.

The family of Melissa Gray has raised roughly $8,200 of its $10,000 goal through a "GoFundMe" set up by her mother. The fundraiser is still open for donations.
