The goal is simple. To provide more and better care for patients.
Several changes are already underway at a Warsaw hospital.
While the sign still says Kosciusko Community Hospital, there's a new name Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital.
But that's the most minor part they hope you notice.
30-million-dollars to reshape the experience you have when in their hospital.
Starting with adding more rooms to hold patients waiting for surgery or to be released.
“Those spaces we are expanding to 23 larger pre-post rooms. Benefit of the expansion really is to allow family members to spend more time with their loved ones. And additionally, will have the ability to provide more patient privacy for the patients,” said Steve Damon, Vice President of operations Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital.
That construction is already underway and should be done by Spring of 2023.
Next up is the actual surgery rooms.
“We are expanding our OR spaces to give us room to do more complex procedures,” said Damon.
With a wide variety of specialized surgeries, the hospital wants to provide more space and options.
Especially with growing demand.
“Our surgical services for example have grown 12% year-over-year from 2021 verses 2020. So we really do need to expand services to be able to afford provide more efficient and more compact services here locally at home,” said Damon.
But almost the most important reason for the expansion is the word ‘home’.
“If your loved one gets admitted to the hospital, we want that to happen in your hometown. 13:09 It allows you ease of access, better communication with your doctors and caregivers because you're right here. You can run over at lunchtime or after work and visit with your loved one,” said Damon.
Knowing this is a 24-7 facility, the OR renovations are not expected to be complete for another two years.
That way they can space it out and minimize any impact on patient care.
