Dan and Nancy Brosz have volunteered at the Nebraska State Fair for more than a decade and said they do it to simply give back.
Because of their dedication and love for the event, they’re being recognized with the Excellence in 1868 Society Award.
The award is given to those who are committed to the State Fair and its improvement and growth.
From years of setting up parts of the fair to showing guests around the grounds, they said they never expect anything back from their hours of volunteering, so being presented with this award was humbling.
“There are people we know who volunteer at the fair who are deserving, possibly more deserving and give their time, so it was kind of why us, but it’s an honor, we’re excited and humbled,” said Dan.
They said they love being a part of one of the biggest events in the state and enjoy being involved. And, they plan to continue volunteering for many years to come.
“As long as we’re able and as long as they have air conditioning,” said Nancy.
“I think we’ll stay doing this as long as they ask us,” said Dan,
The Broszes said they also love the connections they make at the fair.
After raising their family in Grand Island for years, they said being at the fair and reconnecting with some of their old friends is a highlight of the event for them.
