At least 50 people are injured and three people were killed after an Amtrak train derailed Monday in Missouri, according to CNN.
Missouri, Cpl. Justin Dunn, a spokesperson for Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B, said that authorities are still trying to confirm the exact number of deaths. Dunn has confirmed that two of the people who were killed were aboard the train while the third was in the dump truck, according to CNN.
Emergency crews are on the scene of a train derailment in Chariton County, Missouri. According to a statement from Amtrak, several cars of a passenger train derailed at 1:42 pm Monday.
The statement said a train, headed from Los Angeles to Chicago, hit a dump truck at a public crossing in Menden. Amtrak sent their Incident Response Team to the scene of the crash.
There are 243 people on the train along with 12 crew members.
Three patients are being taken to University Hospital for treatment, and some are being airlifted. Boone Hospital said they were preparing for patients, but could not say how many or how the patients are being transported to Columbia.
