Each year, the Oregon Sports Awards honor the best high school scholar athletes in the state.
Instead of hosting one big awards show like in years past, there will now be four awards ceremonies throughout the year.
KATU News hosted the Spring Rising Stars Awards on June 25. We are proud to partner with OSA to highlight the top athletes and coaches in baseball, softball, golf, tennis, and track & field from this most recent season.
Boys or Girls Golfer of the Year
Cole Rueck, a senior at Corvallis High School, finished top twenty at the Under Armour Jordan Spieth Championship in Texas, medaled at the future champions golf tour in California, and had an average score of seventy-one this season. Cole has committed to attending Boise State next year.
Kyra Ly, a senior at Cleveland High School in Portland, truly dominated at the Six-A state championships, shooting a minus-fourteen and winning by sixteen strokes. Kyra has committed to Oregon State for next year.
Boys or Girls Tennis Player of the Year
Will Semler, a sophomore at Lincoln High School in Portland, won this year’s state championship. And as Oregon’s number-one ranked sophomore, he led Lincoln to its first team state title since 1988.
Lauren Han, a sophomore at Clackamas High School, didn’t lose a single set this season. She was the six-A singles state champion, the northwest’s number-one ranked sophomore, and has remained undefeated throughout her high school career.
Softball Player of the Year
Addisen Fisher, a sophomore at Bend High School, was Oregon’s 2021 Gatorade Player of the Year. This season she threw two perfect games and seven no-hitters on her way to a 20 and 0 record. She was named Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year. Most high school sports publications recognize Addisen as one of top — if not the number-one — player in the country for the class of 2024.
Baseball Player of the Year
Nate Vidlak, a senior at Hidden Valley High School in Grants Pass, finishes high school as a two-time conference player of the year and 2021 state player of the year. He set a school-record batting average of .579, and his current E.R.A. of 0.02 is the second best in Oregon high school history.
Boys or Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year
Caleb Lakeman, a senior at Tualatin High School, was the six-A state champ in both the three-thousand and fifteen-hundred meters and posted a blistering one-mile time of just under four minutes and five seconds.
Mia Brahe-Pedersen, a sophomore at Lake Oswego High School, had a truly dominant season. She ran the nation’s fastest time in the one-hundred meters, captured the six-A state record in both the one-hundred and two-hundred meters, and broke the state meet record in the two-hundred meters. On top of that, she also led Lake Oswego to the six-A state title.
