Former Tennessee Commit Enters Transfer Portal

West Virginia running back and former Tennessee commit Lyn-J Dixon entered the transfer portal, On3’s Matt Zenitz first reported Monday.

Dixon was a brief member of Tennessee’s 2018 recruiting class, committing to Butch Jones staff in June of 2017 before de-committing after Tennessee fell to 3-3 (0-3 SEC) in the 2017 season.

The Vols were never serious players in Dixon’s recruitment again. Tennessee fired Jones a month later as the Vols fell to the worst record in program history.

A four-star recruit, Dixon signed with Clemson where he spent four seasons earning an off-and-on role. The 5-foot-10 running back has 1,420 career yards and 13 career touchdowns in four years, but his production has dropped over his four years.

Dixon recorded over 500 yards in each of his first two season before rushing for just 190 yards in 2020 and 48 yards as a senior. The Butler, Georgia native entered the transfer portal following the 2021 season, landing at West Virginia.

Dixon spent just six months in Morgantown before entering the transfer portal for the second time this offseason.

The Vols didn’t pursue Dixon his first time in the portal this offseason and haven’t been a major player for any running backs in the transfer portal.

Tennessee returns 2021 leading rusher Jabari Small as well as freshman speedster Jaylen Wright. Josh Heupel and his staff added four-star power back Justin Williams-Thomas and the early enrollee impressed in the spring.
