A Savoy man is facing multiple charges after reportedly driving under the influence, pointing a BB gun at people, running someone over, and damaging a cemetery.
Champaign Police say it all started around 1:45 a.m. Sunday that Brendan L. Trumann, 19, was kicked out of Joe's Brewery, 706 S. Fifth St.
We're told he got into his Dodge Charger and started doing burnouts in front of the bar and pointed what turned out to be a realistic-looking BB gun at the crowd.
An individual then reportedly walked up to the car and tried to disarm Trumann.
A second suspect then hit the individual on the head from behind and the victim fell to the ground.
The other person then punched the victim repeatedly while he was on the ground, then got into the Dodge Charger on the passenger side.
Trumann is accused of pulling forward and running over the victim, then backing up and running over the victim once again.
Trumann then drove off and crashed his vehicle at Mount Hope Cemetery at Sixth and Pennsylvania, damaging multiple headstones.
A BB gun was found inside the vehicle.
Trumann was later discovered and arrested near the parking lot of his apartment complex.
Police say he showed obvious signs of impairment and admitted driving the car.
The victim remains in the hospital as of Monday.
Brendan L. Trumann was charged on Monday with one count of aggravated reckless driving, a class 4 felony, one count of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, a class 4 felony, and one count of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a class 2 felony.
Trumann faces a maximum sentence of 12 years, if convicted for aggravated driving under the influence, seven years for leaving the scene, and three years for aggravated reckless driving.
His bond was set at $600,000.
He is expected back in court on July 20, 2022.
This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Champaign Police Department or Crimestoppers.
