Competing at the Division I level in one sport was not enough Tywone Malone.
So the freshman from Jamesburg, N.J. appears on both the baseball and football rosters at Ole Miss.
The infielder is a part of a history-making Rebels baseball team - the first in the program to win the College World Series. Ole Miss swept Oklahoma in the three-game series that concluded with a 4-2 win on Sunday.
In his debut season, Malone, who attended Bergen Catholic, had nine at-bats, with four hits, four RBI and two home runs. Malone did not play in the College World Series, but got out on the field a few times early in the season.
After Sunday, Malone has little time to celebrate since he doubles as a defensive tackle in the fall, another role in which he is a force. Per his Ole Miss bio:
Rated as a four-star prospect by all major recruiting sites ... Member of the ESPN 300, ranked No. 45 ... Tabbed the No. 62 overall prospect nationally by 247Sports Composite and No. 64 by Rivals ... Selected as the top-ranked player in the state of New Jersey by 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN ... Ranked the No. 5 DT in the country by both Rivals and ESPN ... Under Armour All-America selection ... Knee injury during the third week of the 2020 season caused him to miss a majority of his senior season ... Tallied 54 total tackles, including 16 tackles for loss and seven sacks during his junior season at Bergen Catholic.
