Holliston police seek driver linked to fiery crash on Washington Street

HOLLISTON — Police are investigating a crash on Sunday in which a van was destroyed by fire and its driver ran away.

Police have not identified the driver of the Ford Transit van, which crashed about 5:25 a.m. in front of 1212 Washington St., Chief Matthew Stone said Monday.

"We have found the owner of the vehicle, but we have not identified the driver," he said.

The Holliston Police and Fire Departments responded to a van crash on Washington Street on Sunday. The van caught fire and the driver had left prior to emergency workers arriving.

The van is registered to a Framingham resident, police said.

When police and fire personnel responded, the van was fully involved in flames and the driver was nowhere to be found, Stone said. The Sherborn and Medway police departments shut down the road from each direction while firefighters worked to extinguish the fire. The van is a total loss.

Using a dog, police searched the area in an effort to find the driver, but were unsuccessful, Stone said.

The cause of the crash is unknown, but the van somehow ended up on a stone wall in front of a home at 1212 Washington St. No other vehicles were involved.

The state Department of Environmental Protection also responded, as the vehicle leaked a "large" amount of gasoline and some oil, Stone said.

The investigation is ongoing, Stone said.

"Our detectives are investigation and hope to identify the driver," Stone said.
