Despite plenty of rumors, last week’s NBA Draft came and went without any major activity from the Hawks front office, but a new report claims that the first domino could be set to fall in what’s expected to be a busy offseason.

According to WSB’s Zach Klein, the Hawks and Spurs remain in talks on a deal that would bring guard Dejounte Murray to Atlanta, pairing him alongside Trae Young in the backcourt.

While it’s not surprising that the Hawks are in on Murray, it is a bit of a surprise that Klein’s report indicates that John Collins is not included in the Hawks’ trade package. Collins was mentioned in each of the trade rumors leading up to the draft, but the deal, at this point, reportedly includes Danilo Gallinari and multiple first round picks.

The Hawks interest in Murray, who’s coming off the best year of his career averaging 21.5 points and nearly five assists per game, falls in line with the aggressive mindset that has been conveyed by members of the Hawks front office since the season ended in the first round of the postseason.

At 25-years old, Murray—a 2022 all-star and member of the 2018 All-NBA Defensive Second-Team—is under contract for the upcoming season at $16.5 million before hitting free agency in 2024.
