Berwyn teen Aryan Rana taught himself about investing, the stock market, and personal finance. Now, he wants to help other kids his age learn about money through his Market Works card game, which teaches the principles of finance, writes Erin Arvedlund for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Rana, 16, is a rising junior at Conestoga High School. He said inspiration for the game arose from classes he took at the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, otherwise known as YEA! His idea won first place in the YEA! national competition.

“Money and finance are bigger concepts [that] you incorporate in your daily life, and not taught in high school,” said Rana. “Schools aren’t doing enough to teach finance, and online sources are intimidating.”

The first-place title landed him a $5,000 prize and a $30,000 scholarship to the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Market Works will be out for delivery in the fall and will retail for $20. Rana plans to head to PAX Unplugged, the largest board game convention in the world. He hopes to sell Market Works to toy stores, financial advisers, accountants, and insurance brokers.
