CLEVELAND, Ohio – Vincenza’s Pizza & Pasta, a longtime lunch staple in downtown Cleveland, has closed.
The restaurant answered public queries on its Facebook page confirming the closure, as did a diner who reached out to cleveland.com.
The Colonial Marketplace weekday restaurant was named after the family matriarch, Vincenza Turchi, a native of Abruzzi, Italy, and was a family affair with daughter Tina; sons Anthony and Nick; cousins and grandchildren, according to the eatery’s website.
Located at 603 Prospect Ave., it served as an affordable lunchtime option and was close to major venues, just blocks from Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Progressive Field, Jack Cleveland Casino and Playhouse Square.
Cleveland.com reached out to Vincenza’s for comment.
Its website briefly describes its origin history, saying the restaurant was started in 1957 in Brooklyn, New York, by immigrants from Abruzzo, Italy. In 1979, family members started the restaurant in Ohio. It offered an array of pizza styles, from Napolitano (thin crust), Chicago (deep dish) and Sicilian (square thick crust).
