Two people were transported to the hospital on Monday with multiple stings after a semi-truck hauling 200 beehives crashed on Interstate 80 in Utah.

The rollover happened in the eastbound lanes at milepost 149, approximately two miles east of Silver Creek in Summit County.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden said bees were swarming after the crash and several people were stung.

Individuals taken to the hospital suffered minor injuries from the crash in addition to the stings, according to the Park City Fire District.

Photos from the scene show piles of hives spilled onto the roadway and over the shoulder of the highway.

The right lane was closed as authorities worked to clean up the spill.

According to the Utah Department of Transportation's website, the lane closure was causing traffic delays of up to 15 minutes at 12:30 p.m. UDOT estimated the road and shoulder would be fully cleared by 1:45 p.m.

PCFD said trails near the crash site are closed "due to all the bees that are in the area."

Roden said it will likely be several hours before crews have the scene cleared and the bees contained.

Multiple engines and ambulances responded to the scene as well as Utah Highway Patrol.
