Danny Bonaduce: Mystery illness made me lose ability to speak, walk

Danny Bonaduce is getting happy.

The “Partridge Family” star shared a positive update on his health after battling a mystery illness that left him unable to walk and struggling to speak.

“I couldn’t walk at all,” Bonaduce, 62, said on “Good Morning America” Monday, explaining that his wife, Amy Railsback, first noticed something was seriously wrong in April.

“She looked really nervous. And she said, ‘You’re not saying words, you’re not speaking English,’ which, of course, is preposterous to me.”

The former child star-turned-radio DJ underwent a battery of tests while in the hospital for five days, which ruled out a stroke but did not come up with a conclusive diagnosis.

“I’d seen my dad have a stroke, and it was the same thing,” he shared. “I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t keep my balance. I slurred really badly. I couldn’t remember anything.

“I was hoping for a diagnosis,” he continued, “but did not get one.”

Bonaduce tweeted in April that he would be taking a break from his career.

“Some news to share. I’m taking a temporary medical leave from my radio show,” he wrote at the time. “I’ll share more when I know more. I’m still working towards receiving a diagnosis. What I know is, I need time to focus on my health. I love my job and talking to you guys & I’ll be back on the air soon.”

He also shared a photo of himself with a cane on Instagram with the caption: “Charlie Chaplin, Willy Wonka, Danny Bonaduce. I’ve joined the club of cool guys with canes.”

Bonaduce, who is sober but previously struggled with substance abuse, has been co-hosting “The Danny Bonaduce & Sarah Morning Show” on Seattle radio station KZOK since 2011.

He said on “GMA” Monday that he was able to return to work after two months away and urged his fans to “take time to consider your health and what you’re doing.”

Bonaduce became famous in the early ’70s by playing Danny Partridge on the sitcom “The Partridge Family,” which also starred Shirley Jones, David Cassidy and Susan Dey.
