The crash happened north of H Street when the motorcyclist from Tulsa, Okla., veered onto the right shoulder
A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed Sunday after he crashed into a freeway sign on the right shoulder of south Interstate 5 in Chula Vista, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The crash happened north of H Street about 5:40 p.m. when the motorcycle rider veered onto the right shoulder “at a high rate of speed” and hit the sign, CHP Officer Jesse Matias said in a statement.
The rider, who lived in Tulsa, Okla., was thrown from the bike and died before he could be taken to a hospital. His name was withheld, pending notification of his family.
Matias said it was not yet known whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Investigators were awaiting a toxicology report from the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
