At the same time, the Sheriff's Office said, 84-year-old Jose Quintana of Frostproof was driving a black 2016 Ford F150 south on West Frostproof Road when the front of the truck hit McKenzie. Sheriff's officials said Quintana immediately stopped and cooperated with the investigation.

Quintana and Martinez were uninjured. McKenzie was taken to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.

The Sheriff's Office said it was raining at the time of the crash but neither impairment nor excessive speed appear to be factors in the crash.
