HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Officers with the Huntington Police Department responded to the scene of a shooting Monday afternoon.

Shots were reported near West 22nd Street, according to Huntington Police. The incident was reported shortly before 2 p.m.

Huntington’s police chief reports one person was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. On Tuesday, police reported the man was in “pretty serious but stable” condition.

Investigators say the incident happened at an upstairs apartment.

There is no suspect information yet.

Neighbors near the scene of the shooting say unfortunately this came as no surprise.

“This stuff has happened more than once, mulitple times,” Ashley Siegle said.

On May 1, police responded to a drive-by shooting on the same block where a woman was shot in the leg.

“I’m angry, I’m upset,” Charlotte Chapman, who lives across the street, said. “One time is too many, much less two in that short of a time. I think they should come down here and get the place shut down.”

Crystal McMillian says especially with it being summer when kids are home from school playing outdoors, she fears an innocent child could end up getting hurt.

“You hear of kids getting caught in the crossfire all the time,” McMillian said. “It makes me not want to let my kids outside.”

Police say they executed two search warrants, one at the setting of the shooting, and another next door.
