Lorain police ended a standoff at 9:30 a.m., June 27, with a man who was holding his child hostage after a domestic incident with the child’s mother, according to Lorain police Capt. Roger Watkins.

Ramon Hardaway, whose age wasn’t immediately available, was arrested in the 1900 block of East 41st Street after holding his preschool aged child hostage inside the residence, Watkins said.

Lorain police received a call for assistance at the residence at about 4 a.m. for a domestic disturbance involving the suspect and the child’s mother, he said.

While on scene, Hardaway refused to cooperate with police, leading to the standoff, Watkins said.

The Police Department called in assistance from SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics team) as well as its negotiators, he said.

Hardaway was charged with domestic violence, obstructing official business, kidnapping and having weapons under disability.

The suspect was charged with a weapon’s offense because he is a convicted felon and prohibited from owning firearms, Watkins said.

Hardaway previously was convicted of drug-related activities, he added.
