Car careens into woods on West Shore Expressway in alleged hit-run crash

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Police are searching for a U-Haul van allegedly involved in a hit-and-run crash where a car ended up in the woods next to the West Shore Expressway, according to authorities.

The crash was reported around 10:45 a.m. in the vicinity of the West Shore Expressway and Victory Boulevard, according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.

One person was taken to Staten Island University Hospital in Prince’s Bay, according to the FDNY spokesman.

A 2003 Toyota driven by a 23-year-old man collided with a U-Haul van. The driver of the van allegedly left without exchanging insurance information, according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
