Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers football program has just lost one of its most talented, accomplished players on the team.
Lyn-J Dixon, who played for the Clemson Tigers for the past four seasons, transferred to play for West Virginia during the offseason and was expected to take on a big role for the Mountaineers this season.
However, that will not happen. Dixon has left the program after facing disciplinary actions for violating team rules.
During his career at Clemson, Dixon has rushed 218 times for 1,420 yards and 13 touchdowns and ranked 2nd all-time in Clemson history in yards per carry (6.6 yards per rush).
Last season, Dixon was in the coaches’ doghouse and has only rushed 10 times for 48 yards. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said the following of Dixon: “He just needs to grow up. It’s just that simple. He needs to be a team player. He’s a very good player, obviously. He’s very talented. But we just need him to stay out of the doghouse. That’s about it.”
Unfortunately, Dixon is an extraordinary talent who just can’t seem to make the appropriate choices off the field.
The Mountaineers will now rely on redshirt junior Tony Mathis, sophomore Justin Johnson, Jr., as well as freshman Jaylen Anderson to handle the bulk of the carries for the team this season.
