Elevated fire danger Tuesday

Riverheads, Fort Defiance, Buffalo Gap, Wilson Memorial athletes earn all-state honors

The Virginia High School League recently named its all-state teams for spring sports. In the Shenandoah District, softball led the way. Class 1 Riverheads placed four players on all-state, including three on the first team, while Fort Defiance had four players honored, including one as a member of the first team in Class 3. 

Athletes from Buffalo Gap and Wilson Memorial, as well as Fort and Riverheads were also honored in other sports. The complete list is below:

  • Lilian Berry, Fort Defiance, pitcher, Senior (1st team)
  • Courtney Begoon, Fort Defiance, 1st base, Senior (2nd team)
  • Kirby Ransome, Fort Defiance, at-large, Senior (2nd team)
  • Brooke Atkins, Fort Defiance, at-large, Senior (2nd team)

CLASS 1

  • Destiny Good, Riverheads, pitcher, Junior (1st team)
  • Cheyenne Deming, Riverheads, catcher, Senior (1st team)
  • Maggie Robertson, Riverheads, outfield, Sophomore (1st team) 
  • Sam Charles, Riverheads, 1st base, Senior (2nd team)
  • Paige Fix, Buffalo Gap, outfield, Senior (2nd team)
  • Sadie Patterson, Buffalo Gap, DP-Flex, Junior (2nd team)

GIRLS SOCCER

  • Carley Pillar, Wilson Memorial, defense, Junior (2nd team)
  • Ellie Cook, Fort Defiance, at-largell Junior (2nd team)
