Retail real estate industry leader Daniel Hurwitz has joined WeWork’s Board of Directors.

Hurwitz’s 35-year tenure in the industry has included CEO positions at DDR Corp. and Brixmor Property Group. He currently serves as co-founder and CEO of Raider Hill Advisors, a private retail real estate investment and advisory firm specializing in areas such as real estate investment trust privatizations, shopping center portfolio acquisitions, mall repositioning, and asset management and dispositions.

“WeWork has established itself as the clear front runner in the industry, demonstrating the power of its brand and an enduring value proposition,” Hurwitz said in a statement. “With a strong foundation already established, I look forward to working alongside WeWork’s Board of Directors and the executive leadership team to continue driving long-term, sustainable success.”

WeWork CEO and Chairman Sandeep Mathrani said Hurwitz’s experience of leading companies through transformational periods is fitting for WeWork, which has spent the last few years rebuilding and recalibrating after the implosion of its 2019 IPO attempt. Mathrani took over the company in 2020 following the ousting of founder Adam Neumann.

“I am confident he will make a strong impact as we continue executing on our strategy for driving innovation, growth and profitability,” Mathrani said of Hurwitz in a statement.

Hurwitz succeeds Jeffrey Sine, co-founder and partner of The Raine Group, on the board. He will serve as chair of WeWork’s Audit Committee, according to a June 27 news release.
