Sioux Center Man Airlifted To Hospital After Sunday Afternoon Crash

Hudson, South Dakota — A Sioux Center man was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital in the wake of a single-vehicle crash in far western Sioux County Sunday afternoon.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, shortly before 3:00 Sunday afternoon, they investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on 360th Street, two miles east of Hudson, South Dakota, on the Iowa side.

Deputies say 60-year-old Randy Nuzum, of Sioux Center, was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 eastbound on 360th Street when he entered in the roadway, lost control of the vehicle, entered the south ditch and struck a MidAmerican Energy Company electrical utility pole.

Nuzum reportedly required extrication from the vehicle by emergency responders of the Hudson Fire Department and Hudson Rescue, and was flown directly from the scene of the accident to Avera Mckennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls for treatment of his injuries.

The Ford sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Rock Valley Police Department,  Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement,  Hudson Fire Department, Hudson Ambulance, Hawarden Fire Department and Hawarden Ambulance.

The accident remains under investigation, according to authorities.
