The Fourth of July at Fort Larned – A three-day celebration

Please join us on July 2, 3 & 4 for a weekend July Fourth celebration at the fort.     

For soldiers and civilians at remote frontier posts celebrating our nation’s birthday was a yearly highlight.  Being far from home made the holiday especially poignant. 

To celebrate this year’s Fourth of July Fort Larned is presenting special programs all weekend starting on Saturday, July 2nd through Monday July 4th. Living history demonstrations and presentations will be ongoing throughout each day, but there will also be special scheduled programs each day. 

The weekend’s schedule of events includes the following: 

Saturday
10 a.m. – Blacksmith Demonstration 
11 a.m. – Small Arms & Howitzer Firing Demonstration 
1 p.m. – Fort Larned Fitness: Bayonet Drill Demonstration 
2 p.m. – Small Arms & Howitzer Firing Demonstration 
4:30 p.m. – Retreat: Traditional Army Flag Lowering Ceremony 

Sunday 
10 a.m. – Blacksmith Demonstration 
11 a.m. – Small Arms & Howitzer Firing Demonstration 
1 p.m. – Life on Officers’ Row 
2 p.m. – Small Arms & Howitzer Firing Demonstration 
4:30 p.m. – Retreat: Traditional Army Flag Lowering Ceremony 

Monday 
10 a.m. – Blacksmith Demonstration 
11 a.m. – Small Arms & Howitzer Firing Demonstration 
12 p.m. – Traditional Salute Ceremony to the Flag 
1 p.m. – Infantry Weapons of the Past: Small Arms from the Revolutionary War to Fort Larned (1775 – 1878) 
2 p.m. – Small Arms & Howitzer Firing Demonstration 
4:30 p.m. – Retreat: Traditional Army Flag Lowering Ceremony
