Police are investigating after a person broke into a Worcester bakery early Monday morning, smashed a glass door and grabbed cash from the register, officials confirmed.
Jennifer Lee, the owner of Jennifer Lee’s Bakery, posted on Facebook Monday to say someone broke into the store at about 2:20 a.m. and took all of the cash that the business had earned from store sales and farmer’s markets over the weekend.
“I am absolutely devastated right now but we will get through this,” Lee wrote.
In a security camera video posted to the bakery’s Facebook page, a person can be seen running through the store and exiting through a large hole in the bottom of the glass door.
Lt. Sean Murtha, a spokesman for the Worcester Police Department, confirmed that an investigation is underway and said that the suspect apparently broke the door with a rock in order to enter the business. Police declined to say how much cash the thief took off with.
Both Lee and Murtha encouraged anyone with information about the break-in to contact the police department.
Jennifer Lee’s Bakery, which has locations in Worcester and Boston, sells vegan baked goods that are free of all major allergens. The business opened its Worcester storefront in January after outgrowing its former location in Worcester Public Market.
