A woman is dead and a man is in the hospital after a motorcycle crash led to both being thrown off on Saturday.

Around 12 p.m., a 66-year-old man was riding a motorcycle east on I-40 around five miles west of Vega when the rear tire blew out.

The driver lost control and laid the motorcycle onto its side.

Both he and his passenger, 64-year-old Denise Heinrich of Oklahoma, were thrown from the motorcycle as it started to skid on teh road.

Denise Heinrich died from her injuries, while the man was taken to the hospital with what authorities called "serious" injuries.

The Texas Highway Patrol is still investigating.
