An investigation is underway after a 36-year-old man died after being arrested by El Paso police early Monday at a Northeast convenience store.

The incident occurred after police responded to a welfare check at about 12:30 a.m. at the 7-Eleven store at 5830 Dyer St. in the Logan Heights area, police said.

The man appeared intoxicated, became combative and was shocked with a Taser electric stun-gun during a struggle with officers while being taken into custody, police spokesman Officer Adrian Cisneros told Channel 14-KFOX.

The man became unresponsive and was given CPR before he was taken to a hospital, where he later died, Cisneros said. The man's name has not been disclosed.
