A new report from a Sonoma County civil grand jury is highly critical of the county Department of Health Services. It’s the third critical report in the past six years. This one focuses on the department’s pandemic response efforts. One section of the report is called “Dedication Overcame Dysfunction.” In it, grand jury members say there is a long-term pattern of poor communication, a lack of collaboration, staffing challenges, and low employee morale that predated COVID.” The grand jury goes on to say the DHS is unprepared for handling the pandemic because of several unfilled job vacancies, including its director of nursing position.
