Undercover Investigation leads to Drug Arrest
According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron, an undercover narcotic purchase by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the arrest of a Monticello, Ky. man. The undercover purchase was the result of an undercover drug investigation by the Sheriff’s Office after receiving complaints of the suspect selling illegal narcotics.

Covid Cases Decrease in Wayne County last Week
The latest covid weekly report which features the number of new cases by county shows Wayne County had fewer new cases than the week prior. 22 new cases were reported locally for the period that ended on Monday (8th). McCreary County saw a jump and reported the highest total in the adjoining counties with 140 new cases. Pulaski had 91, Russell with 53, and Clinton County with 31.

Chief Ferrell Way Dedicated
The Monticello City Council has formally approved naming the street that runs from Kendrick Avenue to the Fire department Chief Ferell Way in honor of former Monticello Fire Chief, Steve Ferrell. The mayor, city council, city police and citizens were present for the unveiling of the new sign following Monday night’s City Council Meeting.

Mrs. Linda Jane (McGinnis) Smith, of Monticello, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, August 06, 2022 at the Medical Center of Albany in Albany, Kentucky having attained the age of 85 years, 3 months and 16 days. She was born in the Jimtown Community of Wayne County, Kentucky on Wednesday, April 21, 1937, the daughter of Willie and Edna (Lowe) McGinnis. She was a Christian, attended Parmleys Grove Baptist Church, and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Smith whom she wed on, Saturday, July 21, 1956, son, Shelby Harold Smith, siblings, Ellie Dishman, Mattie Stinson, Nellie McGinnis, Ollie McGinnis, Olver McGinnis, Jesse McGinnis, Shelby McGinnis, and Shellie McGinnis.

City Council Recap
The Monticello City Council met for their regular monthly session on Monday. The council agreed on two projects which will use American rescue plan funding, the first was the purchasing of two new Dodge Chargers for the Monticello Police Department. The two vehicles will be fully equipped and painted for $92,276. The Council also agreed to use $20,000 of ARPA money to help fund the painting of three murals on different buildings in the downtown area. The total cost is estimated around $40,000 with the remaining funds to be collected through various means.
