Today’s Penn State football news headlines feature a bump in the national recruiting ranking following a weekend commitment, plus an early look at how Lions wideout Parker Washington profiles in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Penn State landed its second prospect from Alabama in less than a week in DaKaari Nelson, a four-star safety from Selma High School. Nelson joined four-star edge rusher Tomarrion Parker in giving his pledge to the Lions, in the process bumping Penn State up one spot to No. 7 in the On3 national rankings, writes Nate Bauer for Blue-White Illustrated. The class ranks No. 3 in the 247Sports rankings and is No. 8 on Rivals.

The early prognosis is good for Washington in the 2023 NFL Draft, writes Kevin McGuire for Nittany Lions Wire. Washington profiles as one of the best wide receivers on the board and might be the best pure slot wideout in the class, according to Pro Football Focus. Washington has a sturdy build, strong hands and good run-after-catch ability, all of which could shine as the junior presumably sees his role grow this fall.
