WE NOW KNOW THE NAMES OF THE TWO PEOPLE FOUND DEAD THIS MORNING, BUT MANY QUESTIONS REMAIN UNANSWERED AS SEARCH CONTINUES FOR A SUSPECT. ALL WAS QUIET MONDAY AFTERNOON NEAR SOUTH 24TH AND WEST MADISON STREETS, BUT THAT WASN’T THE CASE IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. BLOOD AND SHATTERED GLASS TELL PART OF THE STORY OF WHAT TOOK PLACE HERE. LOOK AT ALL THE BLOOD LIKE IT JUST DIDN’T DESERVE TO TO HAPPEN THIS WAY. IT WAS JUST BEFORE 4:30 AM WHEN POLICE FOUND A MAN AND WOMAN SHOT INSIDE A CAR. I HEARD ABOUT SEVEN LOUD SHOTS THAT RANG OFF. IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS RIGHT IN MY BACKYARD. THEY DIED RIGHT HERE. JUST DOWN THE STREET FROM THE CHURCH OF THE LIVING GOD. WE’RE RIGHT NEXT TO A CHURCH. IT’S JUST NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN LIKE THIS. THE CORNER HAS IDENTIFIED THE VICTIMS AS 41 YEAR OLD EBONY SHEPHERD AND 42 YEAR OLD DESHAWN POWELL. WE CAUGHT UP WITH PALS OLDER SISTER KATINA PAL WHO YOU MAY REMEMBER WAS AT THE CENTER OF A SCANDAL THAT BROUGHT DOWN THE UOFL BASKETBALL. BRAND SHE HAD THIS TO SAY ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO HER BABY BROTHER. WE LOSING PEOPLE EVERY DAY AND THEY GETTING YOUNGER AND YOUNGER AND IT’S GETTING CLOSE AND CLOSER AND IT’S JUST NOT IT’S NOT COOL ANYMORE LIKE NOT JUST BECAUSE OF MY FAMILY BECAUSE OF A LOT OF FAMILIES EVERYBODY. I MEAN, MY LITTLE BROTHER WAS JUST ONE OF THE MANY BUT FOR EVERYBODY LIKE PEOPLE DON’T DESERVE THIS PAL SAYS SHE HEARD FROM HER BROTHER SUNDAY NIGHT AND SAYS HE WAS SEEKING OUT TREATMENT FOR SUBSTANCE ABUSE, BUT LED UP TO THE DOUBLE MURDER REMAINS UNKNOWN. I’M GOING TO MOVE BECAUSE I DON’T WANT TO END UP LIKE THAT OR GET ROBBED OR YOU KNOW. IT’S JUST TERRIBLE. IT SADDENS MY HEART. REALLY BAD. IT REALLY HASN’T EVEN SETTLED THAT. IT HAPPENED. JUST LIKE A BAD DREAM. JUST WAITING TO WAKE UP FROM IT. LOUISVILLE METRO POLICE TELL ME THIS IS THE 82ND HOMICIDE IN THE AREA THIS YEAR SO FAR, THEY HAVEN’T MADE ANY ARRESTS AND THEY NEED YOUR HELP GETTING MORE INFORMATION. A man and woman have died in a shooting in the Russell neighborhood, according to Louisville Metro police.Around 4:30 a.m. on Monday morning, Louisville Metro Police Department First Division officers responded to a report of gunshots in the 2400 block of West Madison Street near 24th Street. That is between Muhammad Ali Boulevard and West Broadway.When police got to the scene, they found 42-year-old Dashawn Powell and 41-year-old Ebony Shepard shot multiple times inside a car.Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.Powell is the brother of Katina Powell, who was at the center of the sex scandal involving the UofL men's basketball program."We're losing people every day, and they're getting younger and younger... and it's getting closer and closer," Katina Powell told WLKY. "It's not cool anymore. Like not just because of my family, because of a lot of families, everybody. I mean... my little brother was just one of the many, but for everybody — like people don't deserve this."Katina Powell says she heard from her brother Sunday night and says he was seeking treatment for substance abuse. What led up to the double-murder remains unknown.A neighbor said he heard the deadly shots, and the violence has him considering a move."I've only lived here for 30 days, and probably I won't live here much longer because it's just too much for me," the neighbor said. "It's just, I'm used to living in the country."The LMPD Homicide Unit is handling the investigation which remains ongoing.
