UPDATE: Containment grows on fire west of Mount Shasta

A fire near Lake Siskiyou near Mount Shasta had burned about 10 acres as of Sunday morning.

Update, Monday, June 27, 1:30 p.m.

Containment on a fire burning west of Mount Shasta grew to 50% overnight, Cal Fire said Monday.

The fire has burned 12 acres.

"Resources continue to strengthen control lines and mop- up in timber. The cause remains under investigation," Cal Fire said on Facebook.

A fire west of Mount Shasta burned about 10 acres late Saturday and early Sunday before crews stopped the forward progress of the blaze.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported that crews were sent to a fire on Rainbow Ridge near Lake Siskiyou early Sunday morning.

The fire was burning in heavy timber and on steep terrain, Cal Fire said. There were no evacuation orders due to the fire, officials said.

By about 8 a.m. Sunday, Cal Fire reported that forward progress of the fire had been stopped and the fire was 20% contained.
