Change of venue for parents of alleged school shooter denied
James and Jennifer Crumbley are both facing four counts of involuntary manslaughter for their alleged role in the school shooting that left four students dead.
PONTIAC, Mich. (WILX) - An Oakland County judge has denied the request to move the case against the parents of the alleged Oxford High School shooter.
Jennifer and James Crumbley, parents of 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley, had requested their trial be moved, saying that they will not receive fair treatment in Oakland County.
The two appeared in court for the motion on Monday morning. Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Cheryl Matthews did grant a motion that restricts pretrial publicity in the case.
Defense attorney Shannon Smith told the court her team plans to call Ethan to testify at the couple’s trial, saying his testimony would be in regards to “extraneous matters” rather than the shooting.
James and Jennifer Crumbley are both facing four counts of involuntary manslaughter for their alleged role in the school shooting that left four students dead. The charges allege the two failed to prevent the November 2021 shooting where their 15-year-old son is alleged to be the one who opened fire.
Prosecutors argue the parents neglected their son and ignored warning signs of his “disturbing” behavior. They are also accused of buying and providing their son with the handgun that was used in the fatal shooting.
