Ole Miss was the last team in the 2022 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament field. The Rebels swept through the Coral Gables regional. They swept Southern Miss in the Hattiesburg super regional. They lost only once in the College World Series second bracket to earn a spot in the national championship.

And on Sunday, Ole Miss completed its sweep of Oklahoma in the College World Series final, earning the program's first-ever national championship.

"So much goes into it and we've had so many great teams over the years so at times we came short of this place, and it's been really disappointing," Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco told the ESPN broadcast. "For 22 years, a lot of guys who wore the uniform, they own a part of this, but the biggest part goes to these guys.

You talked about our story all week and I've never seen a group of kids that were more resilient, more relentless, and of course, super, super proud.

Coming off a resounding 10-2 win on Saturday in Game 1, the Rebels were locked in a pitching duel with the Sooners. Ole Miss freshman Hunter Elliott and Oklahoma redshirt freshman Cade Horton delivered five scoreless innings each. In the top of the sixth, it appeared the Sooners had broken the scoreless tie on an RBI bunt single from John Spikerman, but he was called out for interference, and the runner was moved back to third. Peyton Graham flew out the next at-bat to end the inning.

Ole Miss took the lead on a solo homer by Jacob Gonzalez in the bottom-half of the inning, but Oklahoma stormed back to take the lead in the top of the seventh, with Jackson Nicklaus delivering an RBI double to score Jimmy Crooks and Kendall Pettis taking a bases-loaded walk to give Oklahoma the lead.

Things began to melt down in the bottom of the eighth for the Sooners, however. Hunter gave up a single to TJ McCants, which brought in Trevin Michael out of the bullpen. Michael gave up back-to-back singles to Justin Bench and Gonzalez, the latter scoring McCants to tie the game at two and moving Bench up to third. A wild pitch scored Bench, and a batter later, a second wild pitch scored Gonzalez to give the Rebels the lead.

Brandon Johnson came out to pitch in the ninth and struck out the side to deliver the win for the Rebels.

Horton and Elliott delivered on a thrilling pitching matchup. Horton going 7.1 innings with just two runs allowed on four hits and no walks with 13 strikeouts. Elliott went 6.2 innings with six strikeouts, two walks and three hits with two runs allowed. Gonzalez was the only batter with multiple hits as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

4:41 p.m.: Spikerman bunts, and Elliott's throw to first goes past Elko and down the right field line. Nicklaus scores, Pettis advances to third and Spikerman moves up to second. Spikerman might have been running in fair territory and could have interfered with the throw. Video review now by the umpires.

4:39 p.m.: Pettis strikes out swinging, but the ball gets away from the catcher, allowing Pettis to run for first. The throw to first was high as Pettis reaches.
