Catherine Zimmer of Carroll

Catherine Zimmer, age 93, of Carroll, died Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The celebrant will be Fr. Kevin Richter. Music will be by Jane Heithoff and Keziah Janssen. Lector will be Bill Eich. Gift Bearers will be Amanda Zimmer and Chris Zimmer. Eucharistic Minister will be Tom Simons. Casket Bearers will be Tom Simons, Stan Kerkhoff, Gerald Hahn, Bill Eich, Pat Renze and Dr. Alicia Olson. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Vail. The Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas will form an honor guard for the funeral mass.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. A Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church on Wednesday morning where visitation will resume from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m.  Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left at www.sharpfuneral.com.
Catherine, the daughter of William and Gertrude (Scharfenkamp) Simons was born on August 1, 1928 in Carroll, Iowa. She grew up in the Carroll area and graduated from St. Angela’s Academy in Carroll. After her formal education Catherine worked at Earl May until her marriage.  On August 28, 1956 Catherine was united in marriage to Joseph Carroll Zimmer. The couple made their home near Vail were Catherine and Carroll were engaged in grain and livestock farming. After Carroll’s death in 1978, Catherine moved to Carroll in 1979 to live with her mother. After her mother’s death she bought a home in Carroll and kept busy with baby-sitting and taking care of her many flowers and plants.
Catherine loved gardening and tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and going to the casino. Most of all Catherine enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren. Catherine was a member of Holy Spirit Church the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a former member of St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary.
Catherine is survived by her son Tom Zimmer and his wife Carol of Vail; grandchildren: Brian of Colorado, Chris of Vail, Amanada and special friend Brody Swantek of Portage, Wisconsin, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents: William and Gertrude Simons; parents-in-law: Joe and Gertrude Zimmer; husband Carroll; siblings: Joe (Rita) Simons, Marie (Norbert) Hahn, Ann (Lester) Eich, Delores (Cletus) Irlmeier, Evelyn (Bob) Kerkhoff, and Gertrude (Norbert) Renze.
