SEVERAL EARTHQUAKES WERE REPORTED IN ELGIN, SOUTH CAROLINA OVER THE WEEKEND, THE BIGGEST BEING A 3.4 MAGNITUDE ON SUNDAY MORNING. MORE THAN 3500 PEOPLE REPORTED TO THE U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY THAT THEY FELT THE QUAKE. THE USGS REPORTED SEVERAL AFTERSHOCKS AS WELL. THEY ALSO TWEETED SUNDAY THAT AREAS NEAR ELGIN HAVE HAD 33 LOCATABLE EARTHQUAKES SINCE

Several earthquakes were reported in Elgin, South Carolina over the weekend, the biggest being a 3.4 magnitude on Sunday morning. That quake happened about 3.7 miles east of Elgin just after 1:30 a.m.More than 3,500 people reported to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) that they felt the quake. The USGS reported several aftershocks. A second quake with a magnitude of 1.79 happened in the same area just after 1:45 a.m.A third quake in that same area, also with a magnitude of 1.75, was reported around 1:53 a.m.According to the USGS, a fourth quake with a magnitude of 1.34 was reported about 3.7 miles east southeast of Elgin at 4:45 a.m. and then another 4:40 p.m. with a magnitude of 1.5.The latest quake in South Carolina was reported at about 3:30 a.m. near Centerville, South Carolina, and was a 1.15 magnitude. The USGS tweeted Sunday that areas near Elgin have had 33 locatable earthquakes since December 2021. The tweet said, "So much we still don't know about earthquakes in the east."The USGS is asking anyone who felt any of the quakes to let them know by reporting it here. The USGS reported several aftershocks.

A second quake with a magnitude of 1.79 happened in the same area just after 1:45 a.m.

A third quake in that same area, also with a magnitude of 1.75, was reported around 1:53 a.m.

According to the USGS, a fourth quake with a magnitude of 1.34 was reported about 3.7 miles east southeast of Elgin at 4:45 a.m. and then another 4:40 p.m. with a magnitude of 1.5.

The latest quake in South Carolina was reported at about 3:30 a.m. near Centerville, South Carolina, and was a 1.15 magnitude.

The USGS tweeted Sunday that areas near Elgin have had 33 locatable earthquakes since December 2021.
