Groom Slammed for Making Bride Babysit Kids at Her Own Wedding: 'Her Fault'

The internet has slammed a husband who ruined the wedding day for his wife after deciding to not compromise on bringing the children to the reception.

In a post shared on Reddit on Sunday, the man, who goes by the username u/Wide-Suggestion-6647, asked if he was the a**hole for telling his wife it was her fault she didn't enjoy their wedding and the internet didn't hold back.

He explained that when he met his wife, over two years ago, she was heavily pregnant with another man's baby, who had abandoned both and wanted nothing to do with them.

After a while the two got together and had a baby of their own, who is now about 6 months old. And once she got pregnant with his baby, he proposed and started planning for the wedding.

"While planning the wedding I made it clear how I'd like a kid free wedding but my wife was against it because she loves the vibes kids bring to weddings. She's also from the Balkans so having kids at weddings is very important to her because weddings are usually family oriented in her culture."

The two agreed they would only allow children from 10 years of age onwards, although the wife made it clear that it was really important for her to have both her children at the wedding.

"She said our parents will help us out and I told her I am not going to ask my parents to babysit instead of having fun at my wedding."

The wife brought both her children to the wedding in the end, but nobody, including her parents, or her husband's parents, offered any help with the babies and she ended up taking care of them all night, without having the chance to dance or enjoy the night.

The husband then said: "She complained how everyone else enjoyed her wedding but her as a bride didn't even get to dance more than twice. I told her it's her fault and she shouldn't bring the kids in the first place especially the 2 year old because she was the one causing the most trouble during the wedding running around the whole time."

"My parents also scolded her and told her she's very entitled for expecting them to babysit the kids while they were having fun at their only son's wedding."

He also stated that he would only hire a babysitter if they decided to leave the children at home, as he didn't want a stranger at their wedding.

According to research by law firm Wilkinson and Finkbeiner, almost 50 percent of all wedding in the United States end up in divorce.

The most common reasons for divorce include: lack of commitment in 73 percent of cases, too much arguing in 56 percent of cases, infidelity in 55 percent, married too young for 46 percent and lack of equality in the relationship for 44 percent.

The post, which was originally shared in the subreddit AITA (Am I the A**hole)has attracted a lot of attention, and has so far reached over 10,000 upvotes and more than 1,400 comments. One user, Golden-Bea asked: "Who was supposed to watch the kids if they hadn't attended the wedding? Couldn't you have arranged for that babysitter to watch the kids at the wedding?"

Different_States answered: "Because he didn't want a stranger at the wedding. Because the caterers, photographer, and priest are all old family friends /s." And Tykethxrbxrn added: "Also because having a stranger at the wedding is a lot safer than giving a stranger access to your property whilst you're not there. OP - [You Are The A**hole]."

Another user, oh_the_audacity said: "Apparently dancing (not with his wife) was more important than the vows. OP - [You Are The A**hole] and I hope your wife sees the light and [Gets The F*** Out]" And tymopa added: "Ditto...You, OP and your parents, are [The A**holes]."

Dramatic-Tell6810 said: "Apparently OPs controlling and just wanted to punish his wife by only hiring a babysitter if the kids didn't come."

Ok-Bit-9529 asked: "Also why didn't he help with their children? Or is he one of those dads that refuses to 'babysit' his own children?? His parents also berated his wife because *Gasp why would WE watch our grandchildren at OUR SONS wedding as if it isn't HER wedding too...."

And arisyl answered: "He doesn't want to ask his parents to watch her, because she's not their real grandchild. I wonder if the sentiment is shared, and that's why OP is trying so hard to convince us he sees her as his own child. He doesn't even refer to her as his child, just 'the kid'???"
