UPDATE 1:03 p.m.: Police have released more details about Saturday afternoon’s crash in Wythe County, including the name of the woman who died.

According to Virginia State Police, state troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash on Route 52 — about half a mile north of Route 664 — shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25.

Authorities say a 1998 Ford Explorer was heading south on Route 52 when it entered a curve, ran off the left side of the road, traveled down an embankment, hit a fence, and overturned several times.

The driver of the vehicle — identified by police as 45-year-old Thomas W. Ferry of Wytheville — was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.

However, a passenger in the front seat passenger — 53-year-old Dedee J. Richmond of Wytheville — was also wearing a seatbelt and ended up dying at the scene, according to officials.

Meanwhile, 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl in the back seat passenger were reportedly brought to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries. They were both wearing seatbelts.

As of Monday, June 27, Virginia State Police are still investigating this crash.  



WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — In Wythe County, a Saturday afternoon vehicle crash along Route 52 turned deadly.

The Wythe County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened on Stoney Fork Road around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, leaving one person dead.

There were other injuries reported, but sources have not provided clarification on the circumstances surrounding the wreck.

Authorities tell WFXR News that Virginia State Police were investigating the deadly crash, but Virginia State Police have yet to share any other details about the incident.
