COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A driver was hurt Monday morning after a crash on Route WW east of Columbia.

Boone County Joint Communications sent out a traffic alert about the crash at Olivet Road just after 5:45 a.m. An SUV driven by Luke P. Drummond, 19, of Columbia, flipped over after the vehicle went off the side of the road and hit a tree, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Troopers at the scene said Drummond fell asleep at the wheel.

Emergency crews took Drummond to University Hospital with moderate injuries. MU Health Care told ABC 17 News on Monday morning that Drummond is in serious condition.

Troopers said Drummond was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
