(KNSI) – Of Stearns County’s four Princess Kay of the Milky Way finalists, two are identical twin sisters. Hailey Frericks says the unique situation is one she treasures.

“My twin sister and I, we do pretty much everything together, but this is just the icing on the cake. I know we’re both really fortunate to do it together because it’s something we both enjoy. At the end of the day, we’ll support each other. We’ll support any of the girls,” she says.

Hailey and Kallie are from Albany. Hailey says it is the first time in history that two identical twins were named finalists in the same year.

Hailey says the number of candidates from this area points to a bright future for local dairy.

“We are the largest dairy county in the state and just knowing that our princess program is strong, we’re making a difference. The girls that I’ve been able to meet through the dairy princess program have been wonderful…gotten really close to the other two girls that are finalists, as well as the other dairy princesses and ambassadors.”

Frericks says there is great variety in dairy farms. Some produce mostly milk, while others are known for cheese, butter, and other components. She says the use of cover crops and sustainable farming practices adds to the differences, but there is one end goal and that’s happy cows.
