KIRTLAND, Ohio – The Ohio Wine Producers Association will host the Riedel Experience – an educational and entertaining wine dinner that will explore varietal glassware.
The dinner is Wednesday, Aug. 3, in Lake Metroparks Farmpark’s new pavilion area in Kirtland.
Many of us use all-purpose glasses at home for our wine sipping. But many glasses are designed for specific varietals, and with good reason. And what might seem like a simply marketing ploy actually has some science behind it. Just as snifters are designed for swirling, other glasses are meant to target your tastebuds through the design of the shape.
The Riedel family has produced stemware in Europe for more than 300 years. The Austrian company’s name rhymes with ‘needle.’
Susan Durbrow of Riedel/USA in California will lead the tasting via a four-glass set with Markko Chardonnay, Vermilion Valley Cabernet Franc, Ferrante Riesling and Debonne Pinot Noir.
The night includes a six-course pairing dinner, including Adams Reserve cheese and assorted Artisan breads plus salad greens, Riesling with a goat-cheese selection, Chardonnay with a creamy-chicken dish, Pinot Noir with pork and Cabernet Franc with a beef selection. Dessert will be accompanied by Gervasi Vineyard’s Sognata Dreams Ice Wine. Certified wine specialist Lauren Fiala will guide the pairings.
The dinner event is limited to 100 people. Cost is $195 ($375 per couple). It includes a set of glasses that retail for $138 as well as a VIP pass worth $40 to the 27th Vintage Ohio, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5-6.
Only phone reservations will be accepted. Call 440-466-4417 during business hours.
