Dr. Mark Potter, the superintendent of the Liverpool Central School District, has released a statement regarding a fight that broke out during the district's high school graduation last week.
The fight broke out outside following the ceremony at the Exposition Center at the New York State Fairgrounds, according to Dr. Potter.
Police were called but the fight was over by the time officers arrived and those on scene failed to cooperate, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department.
You can read the full statement from Dr. Potter below:
"[Thursday] evening, the Liverpool Central School District was excited to hold its first traditional commencement ceremony since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. After the ceremony, and as graduates and attendees were leaving the New York State Fairgrounds Exposition Center, an altercation took place outside the building between a number of individuals. It's unfortunate that these individuals exhibited such behavior that it took away from the milestone achievements of the Liverpool High School Class of 2022 and the joyous celebration of our students' accomplishments. The incident is being dealt with as a student discipline matter. We extend our deepest appreciation to the families, guests and friends who came out to properly share in this momentous occasion."
At this time, it is unclear what specifically caused the altercation to take place.
