Soroptimists award three scholarships to FHHS students

On June 11 Denise Urell, President of Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor, presented scholarships to three outstanding high school girls at the graduation ceremony. There was one STEM scholarship and two general scholarships.

The winner of the $3,000 STEM Scholarship is being awarded to Robin Taylor, who will attend the University of Washington and study Chemical Engineering. She cares deeply about the environment and wants to pursue a career which encouraged positive change.

The two winners of the Soroptimist $2000 Scholarships are Isabel Graham and Amelia Eltinge. Isabel will attend Arizona State University at Tempe, to study Speech Language and Hearing Sciences. Her plan is to earn a master’s degree and become a Speech Pathologist. Her goal is to return to the island and work with children with speech disorders.

Amelia will attend Washington State University at Pullman in the Honors College and work toward a Doctorate in Pharmacy and a minor in Business. She would like to own her own business in the future. She has been heavily involved in the community, school activities and wants to help people in her career.

We are so proud of all these girls and wish them great success as they travel to the next chapter of their lives. Their academic successes, involvement in school and community activities, work experiences and letters of recommendation were outstanding.
