WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Officials said they are investigating a fatal crash that had partially closed I-91 Southbound in Wallingford on Monday morning.

Police stated that two vehicles were involved in the collision. A second vehicle was traveling in the center lane on I-91 southbound, just north of exit 13 when it collided with the back of another unknown commercial car in the center lane.

Following the impact, police said the second car spun out of control across the left lane and hit a metal cable barrier. The car came to a stop in the far left lane/center median.

The driver of this car, Jeremy Bischoff, 34, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The damage to his car was consistent with a rear-end collision, according to police, but the incident is still under active investigation.

There is no word on the first vehicle involved in this crash, and no information yet as to the condition of the car or its driver.

In the early morning following the incident, officials closed the highway entirely between exits 14 and 13. That closure turned to a partial closure and has now been cleared, with I-91 reopening.

News 8 will continue to update this developing story once more information is available.
