(Seguin) — The Seguin ISD Board of Trustees has invited the district’s top administrator to stick around another five years. The school board Thursday night approved a five-year contract extension for Superintendent Dr. Matthew Gutierrez

After meeting behind closed doors for three hours, the board unanimously approved not only his contract extension through 2027 but also a four percent salary increase.

Board President Cinde Jimenez says the district is proud of Dr. Gutierrez and all that he has been able to accomplish during these challenging years.

“The five years we give him will give him 10 years under his belt with the Seguin ISD and since he has come, we’ve seen remarkable changes and we continue to see a lot of growth even despite the COVID setback. Here we are a couple of years later and still feeling the effects of COVID, but we are finding that many of our schools are improving, and we have a lot of new plans for our secondary schools especially with our middle school redesign and we would really like to see that come to fruition under his leadership,’ said Jimenez.

Jimenez says the district is proud of the team and looks forward to supporting him as much as possible.

The four percent salary increase is an additional $9,200. This brings his total salary to approximately $240,000 a year. District officials say the four percent increase is parallel to what was provided to all administrators this coming school year.

Dr. Gutierrez first took over the position in 2017.
