In a Facebook post, the fire department said Chief Johnson suffered a sudden medical emergency on Saturday while at home, and the Caldwell Fire Department and Canyon County Paramedics responded to provide care.
He was transported to the West Valley Medical Center Emergency room and died early Sunday morning.
"Our hearts are broken at the loss of an integral member of the Caldwell Fire family. Through his decades-long career he made an indelible impression upon the Treasure Valley firefighting community and will be greatly missed. Please keep his wife, children, and grandchildren in your thoughts and prayers," the Facebook post said.
