Three people were arrested in connection to two downtown Kalamazoo businesses being vandalized with red paint on Sunday, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety announced June 27.

The three individuals were between 18 and 24-years-old and not Kalamazoo residents, according to police.

The word, "shame," was spray-painted onto the window of The Grazing Table, a restaurant and charcuterie shop next to the Kalamazoo State Theatre on South Burdick Street. In addition, red paint was splattered all over the windows and front door.

Matchhead Coffee on South Kalamazoo Mall experienced the same vandalism, with the word, "shame," spray-painted onto the front door, along with splatters of red paint. Employees used a pressure washer to clean up the vandalism late Sunday night.

An employee said Radiant Church owns the coffee shop. But the church pastor declined to comment Sunday night.

Police on scene would not release more information. A city spokesperson said a suspect was in custody at the Kalamazoo County Jail. News Channel 3 is working to learn more about the vandalism.
