CHENOA (25 News Now) - Greenery was on full display Saturday, with McLean County residents sharing their gardens to support the community.

The Chenoa Women’s Club hosted the ‘Through the Garden Gate’ garden walk. Eight gardens were open for self-guided tours, with each having a distinct visual identity. One, for instance, was focused on vegetables, another on trees, and one based entirely around a dairy farm.

Garden Walk host Ruth Poppe says it’s a truly community-centered event, and one that paid off with Saturday’s turnout.

“It’s just important, I think, for community spirit just to see everybody pitching in, whether you’re the host or whether you volunteer, whether you did signage or publicity,” says Poppe.

The featured project of this year is the revitalization of the community park. Tickets were $15 apiece, with proceeds going towards improvements like new playground equipment, bathrooms, and handicap accessible sidewalks.

The Women’s Club has been serving the Chenoa community for 80 years, providing community service and projects like this one to help make the city a better place.
